Third Party Motor Civil Liability Insurance

The subject of the insurance is the civil liability of natural and legal persons, owners, holders and users of motor vehicles as well as their authorized drivers for non-pecuniary and property damage to third parties related to the possession and use of motor vehicles.

Risks covered

The liability of natural and legal persons for property and non-pecuniary damages to third parties is insured to the following limits:

 – for non-pecuniary damage – up to BGN 2,000,000 for one victim and up to BGN 10,000,000 for two or more injured parties, and for property damage – up to BGN 2,000,000 for each event.

Pursuant to Article 480 of the Insurance Code, compulsory Third Party Motor Liability insurance also covers the liability of the insured for damage caused on the territory of all Green Card Member States. This insurance provides coverage under the law of the member state of the event or coverage, in accordance with the law of the territory where the motor vehicle is normally based, where such coverage is higher.

Taken together with the Third Party Liability Insurance Policy, a Green Card certificate is issued without any additional fee or other payment.

Territorial validity

This insurance is valid throughout the territory of the Member States of the Green Card system – Austria, Albania, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Morocco, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tunisia, The Czech Republic, Switzerland and Sweden.

How much does Third Party Motor Liability insurance cost?

The cost of the insurance is determined according to objective and subjective risk factors: type of motor vehicle, engine volume, total weight, number of seats, specific characteristics of the vehicle, age and permanent address of the owner, driving experience of the owner or usual driver, presence of at fault crashes in previous years, methods of payment (one-off or deferred), etc.

What documents are required to take out this insurance?

To obtain the insurance, a document must be provided showing the vehicle data and the owner’s data – vehicle registration certificate or purchase contract (if the insurance is concluded before the registration of the motor vehicle).
