The insurance coverage for this insurance insures the carrier against claims to losses or damages of the freight having arisen during the time of transportation.
Most insurance companies pay insurance damages for the goods up to their real value but not exceeding 8.33 SDR(special drawing rights) per kilo missing weight. Upon payment of an additional premium higher levels of coverage are offered. The standard coverage can be extended so as to include the carrier’s liability for damaging a container and container equipment as a result of traffic accident, fire or natural disasters.
To be refunded are also expenses related to protecting the freight, including its storing up to 48 hours, as a result of a traffic accident, as well as expenses for inspection by breakdown services and issuing the respective documents.
The insurance can be taken out for a period of 1, 3, 6 months or a year or for particular transportation.
